Overview
In Tanzania, and specifically in Arusha District, development challenges are deeply interlinked, requiring multi-sectoral and evidence-informed responses. According to the 2022 Tanzania Demographic and Health Survey, approximately 31% of children under five are stunted due to chronic undernutrition, with rural areas such as Arusha often exceeding national averages, showing local stunting and underweight rates as high as 50% and 28% respectively in some communities — indicators of persistent dietary deficits and inadequate early childhood care. (DHS Program)
Across Tanzania, access to safe water and sanitation remains uneven, with national estimates indicating that only about 61–64% of households have basic water supply services and roughly 32–66% have improved sanitation facilities, while basic hygiene facilities lag behind, especially in rural settings like Arusha District where infrastructure gaps are stark. (World Bank) The lack of adequate WASH services contributes to preventable disease burden, with water-related illness responsible for tens of thousands of deaths and billions of dollars in lost productivity annually, disproportionately affecting women, children, and the poorest households. (World Bank Blog)
Forecasted Africa responds to these overlapping issues through an integrated development model that combines nutrition and health programming, WASH access and behavior change, education support, climate-smart agriculture and sustainable livelihoods, resilient infrastructure, disaster and emergency preparedness, housing and shelter improvements, environmental and wildlife conservation, and economic empowerment. Our work is grounded in gender equality and human rights principles, ensuring that women and girls — who make up the majority of the agricultural workforce yet often lack access to key resources — are supported through targeted empowerment and entrepreneurship initiatives that improve income, food security, and decision-making within households. By aligning locally relevant interventions with research-informed planning, participatory community engagement, and measurable outcomes, Forecasted Africa contributes to sustainable improvements in health, education, economic opportunity, and environmental resilience in Arusha, while generating data and lessons that can inform broader policy and practice across Tanzania and similar low-resource contexts.
